“Summer has arrived at Starbucks!” announced the mega-chain in May. Its limited-time-only Chocolate Java Mint Frappuccino is “finished with a layer of mocha sauce, whipped cream, and a chocolate cookie mint sprinkle topping.”

Why stick with calorie-free unsweetened iced coffee when you can get it with milk, Frappuccino syrup (mostly sugar and water), whipped cream, white chocolate mint flavored sauce (mostly sugar, condensed skim milk, coconut oil, and cocoa butter), Frappuccino chips made of confectionery coating (mostly sugar and palm and palm kernel oils) and cocoa and cookie crumbs (mostly white flour, sugar, and palm and palm kernel oils), plus mocha sauce (mostly water and sugar) and chocolate cookie mint sprinkle (mostly sugar, white flour, and palm and palm kernel oils)!

A grande packs 490 calories, 13 grams of saturated fat (2/3 of a day’s worth), and 69 grams of total sugar. It’s essentially a McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese (520 calories and 12 grams of sat fat), but with lotsa sugar! Go for the 600-calorie venti, and you’re in Big Mac territory (590 calories).

Nothing like a light summer drink!
