The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit advocacy organization that focuses on improving nutrition and health in the United States.  Among its myriad accomplishments, CSPI led successful efforts to win a ban of trans fat in processed foods; an “added sugars” line for Nutrition Facts labels; more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in all public schools; and a halt to advertising of junk food to children by most major manufacturers.  CSPI also publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, a leading nutrition newsletter.  In recognition of its contributions to public health, CSPI and its leadership have received numerous awards. 

Among CSPI’s priority programs is its Litigation Project.  That project pioneered the field of food law and ever since 2004 has been wielding the power of litigation and negotiation to tackle some of the toughest issues in food and nutrition, including better food labeling and more honest marketing.  To learn more about CSPI’s litigation work, visit


The CSPI Food-Law Fellowship provides a recent law school graduate the opportunity to spend two years as a staff attorney at the Center for Science in the Public Interest. 


The Fellow works with the CSPI Litigation Director and other CSPI attorneys to litigate cases, including false and misleading labeling/advertising class actions in federal and state trial courts.  Additional activities may include legal research and analysis relating to CSPI’s advocacy more generally and legislative drafting.


The Fellow must have excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.  As well, the Fellow should be highly innovative and have a strong interest in and commitment to CSPI’s work.  CSPI is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified and interested persons are encouraged to apply.
