Senior Nutrition Scientist, Nutrition Action Healthletter – Full Time

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., that focuses on nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation’s largest circulation health newsletter. CSPI provides valuable, objective information to the public; represents citizens’ interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies; and ensures that advances in science are used for the public’s good. CSPI is supported by subscribers to Nutrition Action Healthletter, donors, and foundation grants.

CSPI seeks a Senior Nutrition Scientist to help lead the next generation at the nation’s most popular nutrition newsletter, Nutrition Action Healthletter (www.cspinet.org/nah).

CSPI has been promoting healthy diets for more than 40 years, and has had a profound effect on the way Americans eat. As part of this mission, NAH helps shape the national conversation on sound nutrition by translating the best available science into advice for the public and healthcare professionals, and ultimately into recommendations for legislatures, government agencies, and industry.

We are looking for a nutritionist, or a public health professional experienced in nutrition, who wants to be a key part of this work and convert his or her nutrition expertise into action.

Candidates must possess superior analytical skills to research and understand complex nutrition issues and be able to clearly describe the state of our knowledge in print and on television and other media. Attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines is a must. Editing skills are desirable. Candidates should be passionate about exposing deceptive practices or incompetence in industry or in government and be willing to represent consumers at national conferences and workshops.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role with the most influential nutrition-focused consumer group in the country.

A doctoral degree in nutrition, epidemiology, or public health (diet and health focus) is highly preferred, along with at least five years of experience in evaluating research on diet and health. This position is located in Washington, D.C. only.

Salary is commensurate with experience. CSPI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package along with a healthy working environment. Please send a cover letter, resume, and samples of research and writing for the lay public, to:
