Muhtar Kent to step down as Coke CEO
Statement of CSPI Executive Director Michael F. Jacobson
We wish Muhtar Kent well as he prepares to step down as Coca-Cola CEO in May, and congratulate James Quincey on his elevation to the top spot. Full-calorie soda remains a major contributor to diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and other health problems. We hope Mr. Quincey will guide Coca-Cola toward a future that reduces the company’s reliance on selling sugary drinks, that reduces marketing efforts in low- and middle-income countries, that stops all marketing efforts aimed at children, and stops opposing soda taxes, warning labels, and other measures aimed at reducing soda-related diseases.
