Researchers randomly assigned 24 young men to consume 30 grams of either pea protein or milk protein. (The study was partly funded by Cargill, Kellogg, and other food companies.)

Over the next 5 hours, both groups built equal amounts of muscle protein.

What to do

Don’t worry that plant protein builds muscle less efficiently than animal protein. For most Americans, the key to building muscle is strength training, not eating more protein.
