The Center for Science in the Public Interest supports the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Law and wants to ensure that it is implemented in a manner that provides useful and scientifically accurate information to consumers about bioengineered foods in a uniform and neutral manner.

While the proposed rule is a first step in implementing the law, it is lacking much of the detail needed for (1) consumers to understand what is and is not covered by the law, and (2) food manufacturers to know exactly what is required. Therefore, USDA should address each of the issues forth before the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard is finalized.
