Issue Update: ABC and ESPN Reject Bud Light "Referee" Ads

Recently, the Center for Science in the Public Interest complained to the Beer Institute and the Federal Trade Commission about television advertisements for Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light beer that violated the provisions of the beer industry’s voluntary advertising guidelines.  CSPI also encouraged the television networks to drop those ads.

Last week, ABC and ESPN announced that they had rejected the Bud Light ads, citing the portrayal of criminal activity as one reason for their decision.  However, the ads have not yet been pulled off the air, and we have asked ABC and ESPN to take this action immediately.

CSPI applauds this development and continues to encourage the other major networks – CBS, NBC, and Fox – to drop the ads.
