Sharfstein, MD, (he/him), is a pediatrician and former principal deputy commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, health commissioner of Baltimore City, and health secretary of Maryland. He is also an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and a faculty member of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His contributions to the Straight Shot represent his work alone and not the positions of organizations from his past or present.
