CLOSE About Sat Fat

Every fat or oil is made up of a combination of saturated, trans, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats. Those fats all are high in calories, but some are bad for your heart and some are not. Saturated and trans fats are the bad fats -- the kinds that raise blood cholesterol, clog arteries, and cause heart attacks. The beginnings of clogged arteries are found in kids as young as ten years old. As you get older, your arteries can become more clogged and affect the flow of blood to your heart (causing a heart attack) or brain (causing a stroke).

This Sat-Fat-O-Meter is based on the Daily Value (DV -- or your day's budget) for saturated fat (20 grams). Try to eat less than 20 grams of saturated and trans fat combined each day. Where we had the information, sat fat numbers include trans fat.
