WE'VE GOT THINGS FOR
AND ABOUT KIDS
Almost 400,000 people die each year from diseases related to diet and
lack of exercise. Let's make a difference by establishing good eating and regular
exercise habits for the children we know, teach, love, and enjoy.
Did you
know...
- Children ages 1-5 are as likely to drink soft drinks as orange juice.
- Children typically eat about five to ten times more sodium than they need.
- National studies show that 5% of our children have high blood pressure.
- The rate of obesity in children has roughly doubled since 1980.
- National studies show that 30-40% of our children have high blood cholesterol.
- Whole milk, American cheese, and bologna are three of the worst children's foods,
because of their saturated-fat content.
A National Cancer Institute study found that nearly one quarter of all vegetables
consumed by children and adolescents were french fries, and that only one in five
children eats the five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day that NCI
recommends.
