AMERICAN FARMERS FOR THE ADVANCEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF TECHNOLOGY

American Farmers for the Advancement and Conservation of Technology (AFACT) was organized by farmers frustrated by the loss of safe and valuable management tools with no scientific justification and no economic compensation. As the organizationís name implies, AFACT is dedicated to conserving existing safe management practices and supporting the advancement of new technologies with collaborative ties to all commodity segments and allied industries. (http://www.itisafact.org/AboutUs.aspx; accessed 6/3/08)

AFACT was organized and continues to be funded in part by Monsanto to lobby for state laws prohibiting labels on milk cartons declaring when it is free of synthetic bovine growth hormone. Monsanto manufactures Posilac, a synthetic hormone used to increase milk production in cows. (Martin, A. Fighting on a Battlefield the Size of a Milk Label, New York Times, 3/9/08)
