
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit consumer organization conducting innovative programs in nutrition, alcohol policy, and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest-circulation health newsletter. CSPI strives to provide useful, impartial information to the public, represent citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensure that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported by its 900,000 subscribers to Nutrition Action Healthletter and foundation grants.
Currently CSPI is seeking a dynamic individual to assist in our busy communications department. This is a full time position reporting to the communications director. Duties include managing print and video news clips; distributing news releases to the press and posting to CSPI’s web site; screening and routing incoming press calls; maintaining media contact database; assistance with the drafting, editing or proofreading of press releases and other materials. The assistant will also provide administrative support to the department director. Potential for advancement within the department.
Candidates must have at least one year of work experience and a BA/BS degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of computer literacy are required; some HTML and other web experience strongly desirable. Knowledge and interest in nutrition and health is a plus as is advocacy experience.
